Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points to regulate the body’s energy and bring it into balance. This ancient procedure has been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. Conditions such as chronic illness, allergies, and high blood pressure are just a few that can be successfully treated with acupuncture. Acupuncture is just one branch of a full system of Oriental Medicine, which also includes Herbal Medicine, Tui Na (muscular and joint manipulation), Nutrition and Qi Gong (meditation and energy work).

Herbal Medicines

For thousands of years the Chinese and other eastern people have studied plants and herbs. Over the centuries they developed powerful and complex herbal formulas that can be used in conjunction with acupuncture or alone to help restore or maintain health. Unlike western herbalism, which tends to focus on the use of an individual herb, Chinese herbal formulas typically contain several varieties of herbs that were traditionally boiled into a tea or soup. Today, most are available in pill or capsule form.

Chinese herbal formulas are generally considered safe and usually sold as dietary supplements. However, it is important to work with a qualified practitioner when using herbal medicines. Keith Bell has the experience and training needed to understand how herbal formulas work and how they might interact with your current medications. He can prescribe a formula that will work best for your individual needs.

Nutrition & Functional Medicine

We all know that proper nutrition is the cornerstone of health maintenance, but food can also be used as medicine for the treatment of disease.  TCM has long held that food therapy should always be a primary treatment strategy. This well-established wisdom is now being confirmed and understood through scientific study.

Functional Medicine is a true combination of Chinese Medicine, Western Medicine and scientific research. It combines the philosophy of balance and how to restore function from Chinese Medicine and the knowledge of biochemistry and physiology of Western Medicine with the latest scientific research about how our genetics, environment and lifestyle all interact with each other. Functional medicine focuses assessment and intervention at the root levels of metabolic imbalance and is an evolution in the practice of medicine that addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century by focusing on prevention and uncovering the underlying causes of serious chronic disease.  - Dr. Frank Lipman

In addition to calories and nutrients, every food also has a nature and a flavor. A food's nature has an effect on one's body temperature. Thus a food can make a person hot, cold, warm, cool, or neutral. This is important when treating diseases or constitutions that are hot or cold in nature. Also, foods are chosen according to their flavors: salty, bitter, spicy and sweet. Each flavor has an effect on various organ systems: sweet affects the spleen and stomach in digestion; bitter the heart; sour the liver; and spicy flavor the lungs. Although these therapeutic properties are less dramatic and work slower acting than herbs or other medications, they are extremely important because foods profoundly affect all body systems.

Keith Bell & Josh Sessions help patients create a therapeutic food plans to support their individual needs and lifestyles.

Modern man has created and uses an astonishing number of chemicals on a daily basis. In the US alone, there are approximately 80,000 different chemicals registered for use, with more than 3,000 chemical additives found in the foods we eat.  According to reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The Environmental Protection Agency, hundreds of these toxic chemicals are present in the average American’s body. And these aren't our only concern. Internally our bodies produce toxins through through normal, everyday functions. Biochemical, cellular, and bodily activities generate free radicals.  When these are not eliminated, they can cause irritation or inflammation of the cells and tissues, inhibiting or even blocking normal cell functions.

A healthy, normal functioning body was designed to manage certain levels of toxins effectively.  But excess exposure/intake of toxins coupled with our internal toxin production can stress our natural detoxification systems. A food-based Detox Program (sometimes called purification or cleanse) helps support your natural detoxification systems. OMS offers a variety detox programs designed to ease the toxic burden on our body and nourish the organs of detoxification so they can safely remove toxins accumulated in our blood and tissues that, over time, begin to inhibit organ functions and stagnate our energy (Qi) eventually leading to inflammation, pain and disease.  Keith Bell & Josh Sessions can customize these programs to meet your individual needs and health goals.
